Baby shower games make the baby shower experience fun for everyone. Getting everyone who received cheap baby shower invitations up on their feet and involved makes everyone feel important.

Type Baby Games for Showers

Baby food is something most adults have little experience with – or memory of. The host could have the guests pass around unlabeled baby food jars to see who can guess the food inside. A numbering system can be used to determine which foods are which. The host can keep track of each number and food on index cards.

Another game to put the guests in the baby shoes of the newborn is letting the guests compete to see who can finish drinking water or juice from a baby bottle first. It will be an unforgettable experience for anyone who received a babies shower invitation.

Some people don’t change a bit from their baby days. Others look much different. The host could ask her guests in the shower baby invitation or shower announcement to bring along one of their baby pictures. The guests will take turns figuring out which baby picture matches the guest.

Include Baby Shower Theme in Your Shower Games

The games can even incorporate the central theme to the babyshower party. If the host has chosen diaper-themed baby invitations, guests can compete to see who can change a “baby’s” diaper the fastest. The host will need a few plastic baby dolls, a few diapers, wipes and, for the more realistic experience, chocolate syrup. The guests will compete to see who can remove the chocolate syrup-soiled diaper, wipe the “baby” and replace the diaper first.

Shower Prizes for the Games

No matter what the baby shower games, the winners should receive prizes. The prizes should be different from the favors, but could still incorporate the underlying theme of the shower invitations. For spa- or luxury-themed gatherings, the prizes can include things like lotions and bath oils. The prize can even be a gift certificate to a local spa. Picture frames with one of the shower cards are great prizes to commemorate the special event. Baby themed soaps, like rubber duckies or stars, would also make good prizes.

And speaking of prizes, the gifts for the mom-to-be are even more important! The invitations can sometimes provide valuable ideas for the guests. The gender-specific announcements let the guests know they can pick out girl or boy clothes, as well as gender-specific toys or nursery décor.

The card can provide excellent ideas for shower gifts. If the host is not related to the guest of honor, the baby registry information can be included on the invitations baby shower. For the welcome home shower, guests could even bring personalized gifts that include the baby’s name and birth date. That information should be included on the baby invites.

If you’re hosting a baby shower, you want it to be fun, and picking out party game prizes is probably one of the first things you want to plan out, after the invitations of course. The fun part is that the prizes can double as cheap baby shower favors too, so that’s one of the baby shower favor ideas you can think about when you’re planning out the games and prizes.

A couple of years ago I hosted my daughter-in-law’s shower here was our “game plan” where the baby shower game prizes were a part of the “cheap” shower favors I had for the guests.

Baby Shower Invitations

I printed out my own invitations, which saved a lot of money because I just used postcards. Of course, postcard postage has gone up enough now (in 2011) to not be much of a savings anymore but… anyway…

On the invitations I asked each guest to bring a wrapped gift of any kind, less than $5.00, that would be auctioned off after all the games.

Instead of having to decide what kinds of prizes to give the game winners, I decided to have an auction as the final game. Now, the guests didn’t know what they would be bidding on because the auction items were already wrapped, so that made it a lot more fun! More on that later…

Cheap Baby Shower Favors

The whole idea was to have the best shower possible while spending the least amount of money. So the “goody bags” for the guests were simple.

I shopped locally for everything and found some great deals on discontinued stuff like candy bar wrappers in blue with diaper pins on them. I just ran those through my printer to customize them.

I found the plastic bags at a discount liquidation store so they were only pennies a piece.

And I made custom laminated bookmarks and put one in each bag.

So each “cheap” baby shower favors bag contained:

* Candy bar with a personalized “It’s a Boy” candy bar wrapper
* Baby shower bookmarks
* Some starter Monopoly money for the baby shower game prizes
* And the game cards for the games

Monopoly Money for the Baby Shower Game Prizes
I printed out “baby money” (Monopoly money and I changed the face to a baby LOL). With each game, the winner won a certain amount of monopoly money to be used for the auction.

You can find printable Monopoly money from Hasbro’s website below. If you’re good with a computer or you know someone who is, have them replace the center photo with a photo of a baby or some type of baby item. Your guests will get a kick out of it.

Baby Shower Games

You have to have some games for people to play and win the baby money so they have some baby money to use for the auction. These are pretty traditional, simple games but the one all the guests loved the best was the Baby Price Is Right game. You can get more information on that below too.

The Auction

After all the games were played, my husband became the auctioneer for the wrapped surprise gifts that the guests had brought. Yeah, the ladies loved him and even some of the men came up to watch this game in play. These women were hysterical trying to outbid each other for the gifts. It was funny!! Sisters were “borrowing” baby money from each other and their moms to outbid their cousins. You’d have thought they were at a real auction and the prizes were worth millions.

They had a blast! Afterwards, they all came up to me and said it was one of the best showers they’d ever been to, which made me feel really good because it was the first one I’d ever planned!

1. Fancy a baby shower á la Victoria Beckham? How about playing the ‘create a dress’ game. The guests should split into 2 teams and are then given one or more toilet rolls each. Each team will nominate one member of their team to be the ‘model’ and the rest of the team will race against the clock to create the best dress design around their model with the toilet paper. Don’t let each team take too long – about 5 minutes should be enough. If you want your guests to be really creative let them choose from different colour toilet rolls for a truly ‘creative’ look! Let the mum-to-be be the judge as to which team created the best look.

2. A twist on the ‘create a dress’ game is the ‘dress the baby’ game. Again the guests should be split into teams and each team should be given a doll or teddy as the model and one or more toilet rolls. Racing against the clock again, the teams should attempt to create baby clothing for their model out of the toilet paper. This game can require a little more skill as the clothing will need to be on a much smaller scale! Again around 5 minutes is the maximum the teams should be given. If you know the sex of the baby you can go for pale blue or pink toilet paper to blend in with the overall theme. Mum-to-be gets to be the judge of the best outfit as she is the guest of honour!

3. Looking for a good ice-breaker for your baby shower? The ‘toilet paper words of wisdom’ game is a twist on a popular ice-breaker used by many trainers to warm up their delegates. The idea is that everyone takes turns to pull off a length of toilet paper – it is up to each guest how much they pull off. They may want to take just one sheet or many but the critical point is that they are not told what the game is about or given any indication as to how many sheets they should take off. Once everyone has their sheets the host explains that each guest is required to give as many pieces of advice on pregnancy, birth or looking after babies/children as they have sheets of toilet roll. This is where the guests who only took one sheet of paper look relieved! The game doesn’t have to have a winner but if you want to make it more competitive you can have the mum-to-be judge which piece of advice she has found the most useful.

4. If the mum-to-be is up for a laugh and doesn’t mind her bump then the ‘measuring mum’s tum’ game is a classic. Each guest should tear off a length of toilet paper that they think is equivalent to the size of mum’s bump. Once everyone has their length of toilet paper the host can measure the bump (it doesn’t have to be with a tape measure – just a length of string or wool will do) and then compare this to the lengths of toilet paper. Obviously the winner is the guest whose length of toilet paper is the closest.

5. Are your guests a little bit crafty? Test their skill with a game of ‘toilet paper origami’. The idea is that each guest should attempt to create a baby related item using one or more sheets of toilet paper – let them use their imagination and creativity to see what they come up with – clothing, bottles, nappies, bibs, dummies etc. Time the game to add a bit of extra pressure and have mum-to-be judge the most realistic item.
